This is the project I had been warned about, yet was looking forward to more than anything. It involved taking to the streets and shooting colour medium format portraits of people I came across. To give me an experience of street photography. We had to identify and focus on a certain group or sub category of people. And approach them in the street asking to take their picture. I chose OAP’s originally as from past experiences most of them seem to be friendly and willing to help out. On the whole most of them were, but I do say “most” as I was faced with a handful of rude/odd characters. One of them said “No you can’t take my photo, who the bloody hell do you think you are young man?”, which I must say did make me laugh…in his face. Another simply started screaming and backing off from me, shouting “No money! No money! No! To Hell! Throw it in the skip!” which, well left me shocked, confused and slightly amused all at once.

However I did meet some lovely people, one dude in particular, told me a story about how he fought in the wars, took part in the Queen’s Coronation and suffered a heart attack & a stroke at the same time, and still survived. Which made up for everyone else being so weird and arrogant. I agreed to send him a copy of the print as well.

The shooting went well, apart from a slight hitch with the camera not winding properly on occasion. But apart from that it was fine. Even though it was raining and miserable, people were still willing to stand there while I took their photo. Stoked.
